How to write the best wedding speech!
You are about to marry the love of your life; it’s going to be amazing. For some, although it’s the happiest day of your life it can be the scariest as well. Standing up in front of 100’s and saying those vows and reading your speech can be daunting. So, we have come up with some full proof ways to help you to write a cracking speech that your guests will love.
The thing with a bride or grooms’ speech is you don’t actually really need to say much! Weddings bring everyone together and your speech is merely a big thank you for them being there; for them travelling to celebrate you, for giving you a gift, for being in your lives. All your speech needs to do is reiterate how grateful you are.
These 3 points will give you the perfect structure and then all you need to do is fill in the details.
- You need an ice-breaker! Something that welcomes your guests, compliments your new spouse and puts yourself and your guests at ease. Sounds complicated but actually much easier than you think.
“On-behalf of my wife/husband and I, I would like to thank you for being here” simple, classic and eloquently put!
Fill this in with a little anecdote/story about how you and your spouse got here, nothing to long.
If your new father-in-law has just spoken make sure you thank him for your kind words which will lead very well into the next part of your speech. - Tell people the plan and deliver on it! You are there to give thanks and toast to your wedding party, guests, partner, parents, venue, caterers etc Fill out each person with details and you are sorted. i.e ‘Thanks to my in-laws who have always welcomed me into your family etc I remember the first time I met them at…’ Giving gifts to your wedding party works a treat! Keep it simple and sweet and your on to a winner.
- Give them something to take away. you’ve given thanks to everyone you can now make sure everyone knows it’s time to have an amazing, that your best man is next and you can give some funny quips…maybe suggesting he is a liar, you aren’t even friends with him and have no idea why you picked him! Something along those lines. It will put everyone at ease including your best man!
Things to Remember!
Keep a copy of your speech on you at all times.
Rehearse the speech in the mirror once you’ve written it.
Do not leave it until the last minute.
