Inside Printfest: Artists, Process, and Possibility

Every early May Bank Holiday weekend, the market town of Ulverston is transformed by the hum of presses, the richness of ink, and the energy of artists gathering to celebrate print. With over 2,000 people attending in 2025, it’s a not-to-be-missed event!

Taking place Thursday 30th April – Sunday 3rd May 2026 at The Coro in Ulverston, the passionate team of volunteers behind the registered charity strives to bring an unforgettable show to all while extending its charitable objectives to educate young people and the wider public about printmaking. With tickets priced at £5 per person, and students and under-18s admitted FREE, it makes for a fantastic family day out.

Now in its 22nd year, Printfest brings together over 40 outstanding printmakers from across the country, placing their work before curious audiences in a vibrant celebration of craft, creativity and community.

Visitors can chat face-to-face with artists, take part in workshops, and explore the ideas and techniques behind each print — and of course, purchase original artwork

Chair of Printfest Alyson Dickson said:
“We are proud to welcome Anne Desmet as our Printmaker of the Year for 2026. Anne is one of only 3 printmakers to have been appointed to the Royal Academy of Arts and has exhibited nationally and internationally. We are excited to see the results of her residency in the local area at Printfest 2026.”

Thoughtfully organised, the event team has introduced a dedicated quiet hour from 9–10 am, creating a calmer, more comfortable environment for visitors who prefer a less busy experience. Fully accessible and with convenient parking, The Coro provides the perfect base for the festival, while the charming town of Ulverston invites exploration just beyond the doors.

Attracting visitors from across Cumbria, the exhibition feels firmly rooted in the local community, with The Vintage Bakes Café serving up refreshments, lunches and indulgent cakes, while nearby art gallery Still Life provides materials and equipment for anyone inspired to try printmaking for themselves.
The team’s passion continues throughout the year with in-school workshops, introducing pupils and teachers to printmaking techniques to encourage the next generation of artists, who also have the opportunity to showcase their work at the festival.
