Lindeth Howe

We welcome you to Lindeth Howe, a property once owned by Beatrix Potter.
It is the perfect place to relax, unwind or explore the numerous attractions the Lake District has to offer. Our hotel boasts beautiful bedrooms, cosy lounges, a well-stocked bar, and a 2 AA rosette award winning restaurant with a delicious seasonal
menu devised to suit all tastes.

We enjoy a peaceful location, just a mile south of the lakeshore village of Bowness-on-Windermere. We have stunning views towards Lake Windermere and the fells beyond and our guests are able to relax on the delightful sun terrace in 6 acres of gardens. Such a magnificent setting with such breathtaking views means Lindeth Howe is the perfect place for any occasion.

The Potters rented Lindeth Howe as a holiday property on several occasions. Whilst staying here in 1911 & 1913 Beatrix Potter finished her illustrations of Timmy Tiptoes & Pigling Bland.  Following the death of her father, Rupert in 1915, Beatrix bought the house for her mother who loved the house. Beatrix herself lived across the Lake on a farm in Near Sawrey.  Rupert Potter was an amateur photographer and we are lucky enough to have copies and plates of some of the images he took of the house and gardens.

Since 1998 the hotel has stayed in the same safe hands, while we may have added an extension of a large dining room and some bedrooms taking the number of rooms to 34, we are very much aware of the special historic building we have, and we see ourselves as mere caretakers for a building that has so much joy left to give to so many more people.
